Officials from both ends of the spectrum get together.
The State of Palestine may appear on the map of the world. But first the opposing factions have to seek reconciliation. They have to end their personal feuds and vendettas before there is any progress on the political front. Hamas and Fatah were among the participants. Furthermore, Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas is all set to meet Hamas Chief, Khaled Meshaal in Cairo. The final form of government will be decided upon in this meeting of minds.
Fatah and Hamas are both looking forward to the meeting in the capacity of organizations that want to solve the Palestinian question. It is still a dilemma whether there will one day be a separate homeland for the Palestinian people or not. “God willing this will be the last round of talks…” said Azzam Al-Ahmad who heads the Fatah delegation present at the meeting. There was some disagreement over whether Salam Fayyad, the prime minister should head the government.
When nations are formed there are many loose ends that need to tied together before independence can be announced to the world. The Palestinian people too need to get their act together for full-fledged nationhood.
