A stray remark provokes fist fight among government officials.
Members of the Kuwaiti Parliament began physically assaulting each other after a tactless remark about Gitmo Bay detainees this Wednesday. The US has released 10 prisoners who happen to be citizens of Kuwait. However, matters have stalled regarding two more prisoners.
When discussion began in parliament concerning the fate of the two final prisoners, one of the members, Hussein Al-Kallaf, made an off-hand statement that the Guantanamo Bay prisoners were Al-Qaeda militants. This caused uproar in parliament as six legislators came to blows over the inflammatory remark.
The session was adjourned following the incident. An investigation has been called to determine who exactly was responsible for starting the fight in the first place. It seems tempers can flare up given the tense atmosphere which is to be found in the Middle East nowadays.
