Omanis have illegal expatriates in their country.
Over 11,700 illegal expatriates were held in custody in Oman. They had been seeking jobs and working illegally. During the past 17 month time span they have been rounded up and detained. Many of them were operating in Oman in contradiction to visit and tourist visas.
Of the 11,700 detainees 1687 were women and of these 1355 were housemaids. Salim bin Said Al Badi, the Director General of Labor Welfare has ordered an inspection of various private establishments. The fate and future of the detainees remains uncertain.
