Karzai Bans NATO Air Strikes

May 31, 2011 By Leave a Comment

The Afghan President says enough is enough.

Hamid Karzai has called for an end to any further air strikes by NATO forces in his country. In a statement issued by the president he was quoted as saying “They must treat Afghanistan as a sovereign nation.” Recent air strikes by NATO have resulted in the tragic deaths of a group of women and children which has angered the president.

The civilian casualties are the last in a series of such attacks that have continued ever since the US led war against rebel Al-Qaeda and Taleban elements. Karzai has given a warning that no more attacks on innocent civilians are to take place. The NATO spokeswoman, Major Sunset Belinsky, said that,”we will coordinate very closely with the president to ensure that his intent is met.” However, NATO forces are not about to withdraw soon from war-torn Afghanistan.
