The transition deal has been suspended by the GCC.
The Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) has ended the deal according to which Yemeni President, Ali Abdullah Saleh was to peacefully step down making way for someone else. The current crisis in Yemen was to be resolved as per this deal. But when the President refused to put his signature on a document in a ratifying ceremony saying that he would not sign unless the opposition members were present, things fell apart.
Saleh was to step down within 30 days and thus be granted immunity from the law. But now he has refused to not only sign the deal but has gone ahead to warn the opposition that this could be the beginning of what looked like civil war.
The about-face attitude of the President is not new. He has been guilty of the same thing twice in the past.
