The Yemeni President finally agrees to sign.
Ali Abdullah Saleh in a last minute volte-face agreed to sign the GCC deal that will guarantee him immunity from prosecution not to mention safe passage on his way out of government. The Yemeni President said that he won’t be dragged into a civil war. He further spoke of how his nation was not a failed state and would never be made a haven for Al-Qaeda.
Finally, the obstinate president has decided to step down after the onslaught of forces beyond his control. In his own words: “We don’t want to widen the confrontation.” The United States is happy with this decision. Previously, Saleh had backed down from signing the GCC deal. Now, however, he has thrown in the towel and is resigned to his fate.
