Hamid Karzai is ready to negotiate a peace agreement.
War-torn Afghanistan is still plagued by the menace of the Taliban. The United States may think that it has gotten rid of these terrible terrorists but fact is they are at large in many parts of the country they once ruled. Hamid Karzai in a bid to bring lasting peace to Afghan society has finally agreed to talks with leaders of the Taliban. This shows the desperate state of the region which has been pock-marked with suicide bombings.
But no sooner had Karzai agreed to broker a peace initiative with these sworn enemies, there were two suicide bombings in the capital of Kabul. Maybe it points to the fact that you cannot argue or reason with evil. Whatever the case, Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton has said that “Taliban leaders ought to break ranks with Al-Qaeda, renounce violence and accept the constitution.” But the message seems to have fallen on deaf ears.
The whole problem of the Taliban was a creation of the US and the ISI. Now that both want to undo the mess they created in the first place it appears to be an irreversible phenomenon.
