President Barack Obama said in a statement : “I welcome the announcement by King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa about making important changes to the cabinet and restating his commitment to reform,”
King Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa reshuffled the cabinet in a further attempt to conciliate the Shi’ite opposition that has staged days of protests against the Sunni-led government.The King Hamad on Saturday replaced the ministers of health, housing cabinet affairs and water and electricity and set up an energy ministry in a cabinet reshuffle.
The King has asked the new ministers to enhance services, improve living conditions and boost productivity for the sake of all citizens, Bahrain News Agency (BNA) said.
Obama called Bahrain a “long-standing partner” but said the United States believes the country’s stability “will be enhanced by respecting the universal rights of the people of Bahrain and reforms that meet the aspirations of all Bahrainis.”
The king’s son, Crown Prince Sheikh Salman bin Hamad al-Khalifa, has offered dialogue to persuade the opposition. The Bahrain’s government is serious about constitutional reforms.
