Mountaineering in Saudi Arabia
The tourism industry is ready to introduce mountain-climbing.
When it comes to staying up-to-date with the rest of the world, the Saudis are not to be left behind. The tourism industry in KSA may be in its infancy but that does not mean it is non-existent. While there are strict laws in Saudi Arabia as long as one is willing to participate in some clean good fun there seem to be no problems. Prince Sultan bin Salman has set up a committee to advise on the promotion of mountaineering in the kingdom.
Several Arabs have climbed famous mountains spread all over the world. Prince Bandar, himself the head of the team looking into the matter, has climbed the Winson Massif which happens to be the highest peak in Antarctica. Then there is Zoman who was the first Arab to reach the summit of Mount Everest. The kingdom does have rocky terrain especially in its western hemisphere.
Tourism is a boon for any country that wants to earn a little foreign exchange. Saudi Arabia is no exception to this rule and so has a lot to look forward to.
