Is the Palestinian State a possibility?
The Palestinians, under the leadership of their President Mahmoud Abbas, began efforts to gain recognition in the eyes of the United Nations. Their demand is simple, a homeland of their own. And this includes parts of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem. The Palestinian authorities have ignored President Obama’s precautionary advice that such a move would be pointless.
As for the Israeli head, Netanyahu, he has outright denied any rapprochement of any sort. Unless the Palestinians reject Hamas their would be no peace process with Israel. Even US President Barack Obama’s “audacity of hope” proved hopeless as all his proposals to the Israeli head of state were discarded deftly.
It is a case of two people and one land at the heart of the Middle East. A solution seems unlikely given the stubborn attitude of Israel which refuses to vacate the occupied territories.
