Saudi Arabia reportedly plans to purchase $60bn worth of US made advanced fighter jets and other advanced weapon systems in the largest ever arms deal in US history. This deal is expected to support at least 75,000 US jobs.
US officials were reported to have said, “to reduce the threat from Iranian rockets”, so under the deal, the US is also to expand Saudi Arabia’s ballistic-missile defences. The report said the Obama administration considers the sale as part of a broader policy intended to support “Arab allies against Iran,” and is expected to notify the US congress about these plans in the upcoming weeks.
US Government plans to noitfy Congress that it will authorise the Saudis to buy as many as 84 new F-15 fighters, upgrade 70 more, and purchase three types of helicopters – 70 Apaches, 72 Black Hawks and 36 Little Birds – the report noted, mentioning unnamed officials. The deal would be completed over the next five to 10 years.
It is reported that the administration of the US President was also in talks with the Saudis about missile-defence and naval upgrades that are estimated to worth tens of billions of dollars more.
Drying hands is an necessary part of the hand hygiene process as washing hands is not enough to prevent infections or stop them until you dry your hands after each wash.
But the debate is over the most effective way of drying hands in washrooms.A research suggests paper towels are more hygienic than the electric hand dryers .
In 2008, a study was carried by the University of Westminster London, to compare the levels of hygiene provided by paper towels, warm air hand dryers and the more modern jet-air hand dryers.
The key findings were:
1.After washing and drying hands with the warm air dryer, the total number of bacteria was found to increase on average on the finger pads by 194% and on the palms by 254%
2.After washing and drying hands with the jet air dryer resulted in an increase on average of the total number of bacteria on the finger pads by 42% and on the palms by 15%
3.After washing and drying hands with a paper towel, the total number of bacteria was reduced on average on the finger pads by upto 76% and on the palms by up to 77%.
The scientists also carried out tests to see whether there was the possibility for cross contamination of other washroom users and the washroom environment as a result each type of drying method.
They found that:
1.The jet air dryer, which blows air out of the unit at claimed speeds of 400 mph, was capable of blowing micro-organisms from the hands and the unit and potentially contaminating other washroom users and the washroom environment up to 2 metres away.
2.Warm air hand dryer spread micro-organisms up to 0.25 metres from the dryer.
3.Paper towels showed no significant spread of micro-organisms.
This shows that the use of a paper towel is the best and the most safest method for drying hands.
According to group Peace Now more than 13,000 new homes have been approved for Israeli colonists in the West Bank.
Occupied Jerusalem: Israeli colonists approved the construction of more than 13,000 new homes in the West Bank. On Monday the statement from the group came, after reports that Israel was planning to resume construction work in the West Bank on 26th September, a move the Palestinians say would most probably effect the newly-relaunched direct peace talks.
Reportes say the ground has already been broken on 2,066 units and that another 11,000 have received final government approval.
Peace Now said: “This means that if the government decides on a de facto ‘tacit freeze’, and commits to not approve any new construction, but without renewing the freeze order, the colonists can still build 13,000 housing units,” It also added that another 25,000 units are in the pipeline, but need further government approval.
Meanwhile, an Israeli government official confirmed the construction of around 2,000 homes could go on without any further approval.
SRINAGAR: At least 12 protesters have been killed and 70 injured in violence in occupied Kashmir clashes with indian troops. The police said the clashes started by a report that said a copy of the Quran has been desecrated in the United States.
The death toll on Monday was the highest in the last three months of separatist protests in the disputed region.
Tens of thousands of anti-India demonstrators flooded the streets ignoring the curfew, and burnt government buildings and threw rocks at police stations.
