Ahmadinejad given an Israeli rifle by Hezbollah as a gift

Hezbollah says its leader has gifted Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian President, an Israeli rifle captured during the Israel’s 2006 war with Hezbollah, at his 2 day visit to Lebanon.

In a statement Hezbollah said that Sheik Hassan Nasrallah gave the weapon to Ahmadinejad in a meeting at the Iranian embassy in Beirut late Thursday shortly before the Iranian leader finished up his trip.

The 2006 war between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah erupted after the Shiite militant group captured two Israeli soldiers in a cross-border raid. Approximately 1,200 Lebanese and 160 Israelis were killed in the 34-day war.

Hezbollah’s top financial backer is Iran and is believed to provide the group with weapons.
